Call for abstracts

We invite submissions on all aspects of marine bioinvasions, welcoming contributions that extend beyond the listed themes below. The proposed themes reflect current and emerging topics, but we emphasize that they are not exhaustive or restrictive. Final conference sessions may be adjusted based on the diversity and scope of abstracts submitted, as we strive to foster an inclusive and comprehensive program. We encourage researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders from diverse disciplines and regions to share their insights, ensuring a dynamic and collaborative exchange of ideas.

The themes of ICMB XII are:

1. Biofouling dynamics: ships, plastics, and management strategies
   Focusing on how climate extremes like marine heatwaves affect invasive species resilience and impacts across marine ecosystems, with emphasis on adaptive management.

2. Emerging Anthropogenic Pathways: Understanding and Mitigating New Vectors
   Examining emerging pathways of invasion, such as marine debris, offshore energy, and their impacts, with innovative management approaches.

3. Innovative Detection and Early Warning Systems: Tools and Citizen Science in Action
   Exploring the latest in early detection technologies, including environmental DNA (eDNA), AI tools, and citizen science initiatives that empower communities in early warning systems.

4. Policy and Collaboration: Bridging Science, Management, Governance, and Community
   Analyzing cross-border policies, emphasizing transdisciplinary and community-based collaborations to strengthen invasive species management frameworks.

5. Restoration and Remediation of Invasion-Impacted Ecosystems
   Highlighting methods and success stories in rehabilitating ecosystems impacted by invasive species, focusing on community involvement and ecological recovery.

6. Bioinvasions and the Blue Economy: Navigating Economic and Ecological Balance
   Investigating the impact of invasions on marine industries and developing sustainable practices that balance economic growth with ecosystem conservation. Industry, start-ups

   Uncovering the many roles of invasive species in invaded ecosystems

8. Marine Protected Areas and Bioinvasions: Opportunities and Challenges
   Examining the dual role of marine protected areas (MPAs) as potential barriers and vulnerable hotspots for bioinvasions, focusing on strategies to enhance MPA resilience and management.
