Transport
Arrive by air
The closest airport is Cape Town International (CPT), located approximately 20km from the Protea Hotel Waterfront Breakwater Lodge. In the airport's Central Terminal Building, business facilities, including lounges, Wi-Fi and telephone services, are excellent. The arrivals hall includes an accommodation hotline, tourist information office, car rental desks and a foreign currency exchange desk. Please note that the airport can become busy during peak season (November to March).
Informal airport helpers may offer assistance to business travelers in exchange for tips. Travelers requiring support should seek assistance from official airport staff or the information desk. Do not hand over your baggage to anyone unless they are wearing official identification.
Moving around Cape Town
There are limited public transport options in the Cape Town area. Visitors are encouraged avoid using the train or buses (but note the offcial open top red bus is a great way to see the top tourist sites).
eHaling taxi
The best option for transport from the airport and around the city is using the Uber App. For a more comfortable experience, book Uber Black, which uses high-end vehicles (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi) and highly rated drivers. Uber Black is typically priced 2-3 times higher than standard UberX and you may need to wait a little longer during peak times. Booking your ride through the app is highly advised. Step 1: Book your ride and only accept a highly rated driver. Step 2: Check that the car that arrives has the same licence plate as shown on the App. Step 3: You will receive a secure code that you will share with your driver. The driver will enter it into their app and you will receive a message on your app saying that your ride has been validated. This process ensures that you have been picked up by the right driver and you can sit back and enjoy your ride. As a standard safety precaution, do not get into the car until your ride has been verified. When traveling from the airport, you can find your Uber driver on the ground floor in parking area P1 (exit the arrivals building to the right).
Airport shuttle
Another option for transport from the airport to your accommodation is to book an airport shuttle. We recommend using Blue Mountain Shuttles and Tours, which offers reliable airport transfers and private transport services in and around Cape Town, with options for individuals and groups.
Hiring a car
Car hire is an efficient way of getting around town. Most car-hire companies have offices at the airport and in the city centre and offer pick-up services at hotels on demand. If renting a car, it is recommended to book in advance.
Traffic drives on the left in South Africa. All motorists with a valid national driving licence, which is in English and contains the photograph and signature of the driver, are allowed to drive within Cape Town. Car rental companies may ask for an international driver's permit. Since it cannot be obtained locally, foreign nationals should procure one from their home country. Check all requirements before arriving to collect the hire car.
Directions from Cape Town international Airport to Protea Hotel Waterfront Breakwater Lodge

Continue onto Nelson Mandela Blvd. Use the right lane to merge onto Nelson Mandela Blvd/N1/N2 (direction Cape Town). Follow the signs to Cape Town (not Muizenberg). The highway eventually ends in a traffic intersection and from there is called Buitengracht St/M62. Turn right onto Helen Suzman Blvd/M6.
