Thank you to everyone who submitted an abstract for ICMB XI!
ICMB XI's initial call for abstracts ran from September 7–December 4, 2022. As of January 3, 2023, all participants who submitted during the initial call have been notified of their decision via email.
Emails went to the address the submitter used to log in to the abstracts platform. If you have not received your decision email, please first check your spam or junk mail folder. If that does not resolve the issue, then please email us immediately.
A second call for abstracts ran from January 1–January 31, 2023. Participants who submitted during the second call can expect a decision notification by February 24, 2023.
Second Call for Abstracts
In response to continued interest from our community, the ICMB XI Scientific Steering Committee is happy to once again invite researchers and students to submit abstracts for poster or oral presentation at the 11th International Conference on Marine Bioinvasions, May 15–19, 2023.
We are seeking presentations reporting new science and approaches across the field of marine bioinvasions. The conference program will be organized around six core themes. Presentation of work aligning with our themes is encouraged, and we also welcome submissions on other topics.
Submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed and selected based on the quality and rigor of the abstract and the novelty of the work. If an abstract is accepted, at least one co-author will be expected to register for and attend the conference to present the work.
Abstract Requirements
To be considered for acceptance, abstracts must adhere to the following requirements:
- Language of submission: English
- Abstract title: maximum of 100 characters
- Abstract body: maximum of 200 words
- Co-authors: (UPDATED) No limit on total number of co-authors
- Submissions relating to a commercial product or service must include at least one academic co-author
Have the following information ready before you submit:
- For each co-author: Full name, affiliation (institution/organization), country
- The presenting author's full name and email address
- Preferred presentation format: oral or poster
- Does the work presented align with any of ICMB XI's core themes?
Please be sure to review the Frequently Asked Questions (below) for specific policies regarding the January call for abstracts.
For further guidance in preparing a high-quality abstract, we invite you to study these examples from the previous conference.
For comprehensive details on presentation formats and specifications, please consult our guide for presenters.
FAQ: Second Call for Abstracts
What are the dates of ICMB XI's second call for abstracts?
Submissions opened on January 1 and will close on January 31, 2023.
When can January submitters expect a decision?
Participants submitting as part of the January call can expect a decision notification by February 24, 2023. Please note that this is after the end of the early registration period.
For International Travelers
If you anticipate needing a letter verifying acceptance of your abstract in order to obtain a visa, please take the following steps as soon as possible.
- Begin your abstract submission (you don't need to complete it in one sitting). You will receive an automated email message containing a reference number for your submission.
- Send us an email letting us know the details of your visa documentation requirements and timeline. Make sure to include your submission reference number in the email. We can expedite review of your abstract, if necessary, to meet visa processing deadlines.
Is this a call for “late-breaking” abstracts of exceptional interest?
No, the overall standard for acceptance is unchanged. However, due to the strong response to our initial call for abstracts, space for oral presentations is likely to be limited for participants submitting in January. Committee members may offer acceptance for a poster to some submitters who request an oral presentation.
I submitted an abstract during the initial call. Am I welcome to submit another one in January?
You are welcome to submit a new abstract during the second call. Abstracts that already received a decision during the initial call will not be reconsidered. In case of space constraints, the committee will give priority to submitters who did not participate in the initial call.
Are there any submission limits during the second call?
You may submit multiple abstracts during the second call, but please keep in mind that space for talks is likely to be limited. Additional oral presentation submissions may be offered acceptance as posters. If there is a topic that you would especially like to present as a talk, we advise you to make that your only oral presentation submission.
Are travel scholarship applications also open again during January?
No, the January call is for abstract submissions only. Unfortunately, it is not feasible for us to offer a second Travel Award application period.
Prizes for Student Presentations
Students may opt to have their oral or poster presentation evaluated for a chance to win a cash prize. If you are a current student, or were a student at any time during 2022, look for the sign-up option when you're submitting your abstract.
Members of the Scientific Steering and Local Organizing Committees will evaluate presentations of all students who opt to have their work considered. To guide students in preparing a high-quality presentation, we suggest studying the prize evaluation rubric and our guide for presenters.
All students who opt in will receive a copy of their evaluation by the end of the conference, whether or not they have won a prize. This is a great way for novice presenters to get valuable feedback!
