ICMB XI Statement on Recent Events
As a group of international scientists, we strive to ensure that all people feel welcome at SSMB meetings and events, and we recognize the great amount of work that needs to be done to increase the diversity of our attendees and our field. We know that part of that work is to call out racism and inequality that black scientists face in the world, creating unsafe environments both in nature and in our cities. We value you, support you, and condemn the acts of violence against black people committed in recent weeks and centuries before. We stand with you during this emotional time and express deepest sympathy to the families and communities of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and far too many preceding them.
